Estates, Evaluation and Disposal of Firearms

AV Ballistics (AVB) provides Independant Forensic Services to the Legal Profession on matters relating to Firearms, Ballistics and Gunshot Wounds. With 20 years of Court experience in all levels of Jurisdiction, including Military Courts-martial, AVB can:

  • Review briefs of Forensic evidence, specifically in Firearms and Ballistics, with a general overview of other scientific disciplines.
  • Identify firearms and ammunition.
  • Reconstruct crime scenes where firearms have been used.
  • Re-enact hypothetical scenarios of firearms use.
  • Test ammunition for velocity and pressure parameters.
  • Evaluate the functioning and safe operation of firearms, and ammunition.
  • Evaluate post-mortem and other medical evidence regarding firearms.
  • Estimate and generally comment on Gunshot ranges, and Gunshot Residue (GSR).
  • Prepare reports and brief Counsel.
  • Give Expert Evidence in Courts of Law.
  • Advise on the finer aspects of the Weapons Act 1990 (Qld).

Contact and retainer on Forensic and Legal matters should be made by your legal representative (solicitor or barrister). This is to maintain a proper professional relationship.

AVB can be retained directly in matters not relating to Court proceedings, such as product testing, civil liability, general firearms and ammunition evaluation /identification.

AVB is a member of the Australian & New Zealand Forensic Sciences Society, and ascribes to the Society's code of Ethics and Practices.

AVB Forensic Services are available Australia wide, and to the common law jurisdictions of the South Pacific region.

Estates, Evaluation and Disposal of Firearms

AVB provides a specialised service to the legal profession in the efficient disposal and realization of Firearms of Deceased Estates, in Family Court proceedings (DVOs, AVOs, property settlements, safe storage, unlicensed / unregistered / expired licence or legal incompentency under the WA 1990 (Qld)) and in any other matters where Firearms are central to the matter.

AVB is licensed under the WA 1990 (Qld) to deal in, store securely and otherwise handle all manner of Firearms.

Where certification of firearm valuations are required, or Auctions organised, AVB can liase with recognised entities in these fields for the appropiate action.

AVB also holds Australian Customs certification as a Handgun Importer, and can advise and assist the legal importation of firearms for private or commerical use.
